Interim Observer Team Departs for Preah Vihear Province for Another Ceasefire Observation

The Interim Observer Team (IOT) led by Col. Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, Defence Attaché of Malaysia to Cambodia, left here this morning for another on-site inspection visit to Preah Vihear province, under the coordination of the Ministry of National Defence.

According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, the visit of the IOT delegation comprising representatives from five countries is aimed to observe, verify and report on the update situation after the Ceasefire Agreement.

This mission stems from the outcomes of the Special Meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border (GBC) Committee on Aug. 7, 2025.

“Cambodia reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding the ceasefire agreement and firmly committed to the principles of international law, the peaceful resolution of disputes and maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs,” she emphasised.

Regarding the border situation, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata reported that from midnight until 6:00 a.m. this morning, conditions along the frontline in Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Banteay Meanchey provinces remained calm and stable.

At the same time, she reiterated Cambodia’s call for Thailand to immediately release the 18 Cambodian soldiers who have been unlawfully detained for 21 days, 23 hours, and 10 minutes as of 7:00 a.m. on Aug. 20.
